Last year’s press release:
THE GARAGE SALE TO END ALL GARAGE SALES!
United Way of Chittenden County Benefits from Hampton Direct Sale
June, 2006 (Essex Junction, VT) In spite of rainy skies at this past weekend’s Vermont Balloon and Music Festival, the sales were anything but dreary at the first annual Hampton Direct Garage Sale held during the festival at the Champlain Valley Exposition. With United Way of Chittenden County as the beneficiary of all proceeds, the three-day sale resulted in nearly 3,000 individual items being sold, resulting in over $5,400 for the benefit of the non-profit. The 2006 Community Fundraising Campaign for United Way officially kicks off in September, making this one of the first pre-season events. Last year’s Campaign raised over $4.01 million.
According to Tim George, spokesperson for the Williston-based company, “The traffic at the sale was constant and most people left with bags and bags of new-found treasures.” The company, founded in 1995, is known for a huge selection of innovative products at affordable prices, from jewelry to house wares, novelty gifts to clothing. George said, “We wanted to make certain the sale of our overstock items would benefit a worthwhile cause in the local community, and United Way is a great organization that helps everyone in our area at some time or another. Twenty-one employees from Hampton Direct worked with five staff members from the United Way to make the sale a success, and everyone involved hinted at their willingness to sign up for next year.
